    Gamboa started off as a stage actor, acting in plays produced by Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA). He was encouraged by director Lino Brocka to join the movie industry.[1] He was one of the founding members of Theater Workers Guild.[2]

    Gamboa won the Best Supporting Actor in the Metro Manila Film Festival for the movie Burlesk Queen.
