Jenny Shipley – New Zealand’s first female prime minister
Jenny Shipley
In 1997, Jenny Shipley became the first woman in the history of New Zealand to hold the prime minister position.
In addition to this, she served as the leader of the National Party between 1999 and 2001. Before attaining those top positions, Shipley was an active member of New Zealand Parliament, an institution she devoted 15 years of her life to.
She also served in a number of ministerial positions, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transport.
